The first beach heading south is Patong Beach. It's soft golden sand forms the western edge of bustling Patong City which is a major tourist destination. This beach is not my favourite but can be a great place to stop for a beer and watch the sunset, plus of course, people!
As you head south from Patong, each beach gets better than the last. First is Karon Beach. It is a long beautifully wide stretch of sand with no buildings built directly upon the beach itself. All the action is across the road. I haven't stopped to enjoy a walk yet, but it looks like a perfect spot to take a long, lovely stroll.
Kata Beach comes next, and the green hillsides rise up quickly to form a tropical backdrop to the little town. The road has many gorgeous overlooks and photo opportunities because of the hilly topography. Kata has something for everyone. I certainly need to spend a day exploring there.
Kata Noi Beach is a small sweet spot. We stopped to admire the color of the water and the powdery sand.
