Corey and I made it down to watch Sepaktakraw. I'm not sure how to pronounce it but it was very exciting! Basically it's a cross between beach volleyball and soccer, kinda. Very hard to explain. We did watch the Thai team obliterate Team Iran. The Koreans and Indians were playing on the next court.
They are four man teams and the striking is mostly done with a flip-kick. It is very difficult to explain but amazing to watch. The guys in the front, spikers/strikers, basically do a complete flip when the put the ball over the net-hard. Normally the game is played with a open weave wicker ball, slightly smaller than a soccer ball. The balls used for the Phuket event were plastic, which was a little disappointing. Obviously the Thai's had grown up playing the game. The Iranians looked like they were more used to soccer but put some of their more flexible guys in the front row. Serving is also done with a crazy extended leg cross kick. The scoring and sets seemed a lot like volleyball. If you ever get a chance to see this sport, do.
